Ensign Michael Schrump stands conning officer watch aboard the guided-missile frigate USS Vandegrift (FFG 48) as the ship approaches for a replenishment at sea with the Military Sealift Command dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Richard E. Byrd (T-AKE 4). The U.S. Coast guard national security cutter USCGC Waesche (WMSL 751) transits alongside preparing to make its approach to Richard E. Byrd. Vandegrift took on more than 90,000 gallons of fuel and 35,000 pounds of food and supplies.
