PFC Kyle Giffen
"I live in New Braunfels Texas. Outside of the 272nd Engineer company I’m a sprinkler technician and I’m currently going to community college studying project management.
In the military I’m a Horizontal Engineer or a 12 November. We’re heavy equipment operators, we’re the ones digging holes, repaving roads, things like that.
Honestly, I was sitting around at home when I got the call and I figured might as well just do it, it’s what I signed up for. I joined because I wanted to be a bigger part of what was around me.
I’m not really too sure on my specific job for this mission, all I know is that we going to go out and help elderly homes, hospitals and help disinfect and make sure we can get Texas back up and running.
I’m most excited about getting closer with my team, my fellow counterparts, becoming a closer team and knowing I’m making an impact of the state of Texas.
I’m from South Africa originally, that was one reason why I joined as well. I wanted to give back to the country that allowed me to come be a bigger part of myself and give me opportunities. So, I figured I help give back."

This is probably one of more inspiring profiles that I have done. The overall presence of Kyle Giffen was humble, kind and genuine. He wanted to be a bigger part of himself and volunteered to be away from him home, his security. Not knowing exactly what he would be doing only knowing that he would be helping out someone else in need. A simple man with a kind heart. (U.S. Army Photo by Capt. Leyda Ocasio-Kanzler)
