"I joined the Guard in 2018 of April, I’m a 92 Fox; petroleum supply specialist. I barely got to this unit, 272nd Engineer Company like two years ago or a year and a half ago, It’s an okay unit.
I work as a receptionist at a retirement care facility. So, when they told me I had to clean retirement facilities I was like oh, I didn’t realize how important it was. So, now when I go back, I’ll be like more cautious with the elderly, of how important they are especially when I see their families come in. They (the families) can’t really see them, I do feel bad, that they can’t see them. They can only give them supplies.
They (the residents) don’t really know what is going on. Some of them have slight dementia or Alzheimer’s and all of that.
At first, I was voluntold to be here. But then at that moment I was like ‘I joined for a reason. This was bound to happen; I’m surprised it wasn’t a flood mission this time.’ Now, because I work at a retirement facility I understand more and take it more seriously. So, when I put on the hazmat suit, I’m more cautious about touching things and social distancing and all of that to include wearing my mask when I’m out in public. So now I’m glad to do what I do.
I’m also a college student, I go to St. Phillips, in Alamo colleges, I’m from San Antonio.
I crochet, I love to crochet and I brought all my crochet stuff, so when I have like my personal time besides working out, I crochet. It’s very therapeutic you know, get away from social media and what’s going on in the world. I just put some music on. I make a lot of toys, plushies, like whales, bears or monkeys. Right now, I’m making a duck, I made a Pokémon, I made Psyduck and I have some pictures if you want to see them. I want to make something bigger, like a baby blanket.
    I’m excited to be here"

Audrey Robles was an open book. A candid conversation with her gave me a glimpse inside of a person that wasn’t really given the choice to be on the team. As a college student and full-time receptionist, she wasn’t given so much the opportunity but the order to be a part of the disinfecting team. Sometimes our paths are chosen for us, and it can be one that opens up doors to new adventures. Audrey is seeing it that way and looking at the bright side to this new journey. After all she joined for this reason. (U.S. Army Photo by Capt. Leyda Ocasio-Kanzler)
