A modern aluminum dock or boat launch platform extends toward a calm, dark river or lake surrounded by mixed forest. The water surface is highly reflective, mirroring the overcast sky and treeline. The scene appears to be captured during late autumn or early winter, evidenced by the bare deciduous trees and overcast conditions.

An installed pier is shown March 26, 2020, at Swamp Pond at Fort McCoy, Wis. New piers were installed in 2015 at all Fort McCoy lakes and ponds to allow greater access for people with disabilities. The pier improvements were completed through a multiagency effort that included the Directorate of Public Works; Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation; and the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security. Swamp Pond is a popular fishing stop on South Post as well. (U.S. Army Photo by Scott T. Sturkol, Public Affairs Office, Fort McCoy, Wis.)
