The Waldo Canyon Fire burns on the mountainside near U.S. Air Force Academy, Mountain Shadows and Peregrine neighborhoods, Tuesday evening. The fire, which began Saturday, expanded to 15,324 acres as of press time Wednesday. Fort Carson officials accepted military evacuees in shelters in the Special Events Center and Youth Services Center. Twenty-four firefighters from the Fort Carson Fire Department helped battle the blaze.
