A group of soldiers in desert/tan camouflage uniforms are gathered in an arid, dry-grass terrain in what appears to be a military training or briefing session. One soldier wearing a patch consistent with the Burkina Faso flag is raising their hand, while a lighter-skinned soldier in a different camouflage pattern faces the group from the foreground. The setting suggests a field exercise or advisory training operation in a Sahelian environment.

Austrian special operation forces gives instruction to Burkinabe forces during Flintlock 20 in Thies, Senegal, Feb. 16, 2020. Units from each of the 15 African militaries participating in Flintlock build upon the previous day’s training, which contributes to an increasingly complex scenario and sharpening their skills for the fight against extremism. Exercise Flintlock 2020 is designed to further the training and counterterrorism capabilities and proficiencies of participating nations across the Sahel region with coordinating efforts from Western and international nations and the United States.
