The image shows what appears to be a military training exercise in an arid, semi-desert landscape. Two clearly visible personnel are present: one standing in multicam/OCP pattern uniform acting as an observer or instructor, and one kneeling in a firing position aiming an AK-pattern rifle downrange. A third individual is partially visible in the background left.

A member of Dutch special operations oversees a Burkinabe soldier engaging targets during a squad live fire exercise during Flintlock 20 in Thies, Senegal, Feb. 16, 2020. Units from each of the 15 African militaries participating in Flintlock build upon the previous day’s training, which contributes to an increasingly complex scenario and sharpening their skills for the fight against extremism. Exercise Flintlock 2020 is designed to further the training and counterterrorism capabilities and proficiencies of participating nations across the Sahel region with coordinating efforts from Western and international nations and the United States.
