An elderly man in a dark suit and striped tie is speaking at a wooden podium in what appears to be a library or bookstore setting. Behind him hangs a banner or photograph displaying the text 'THIS IS YOUR PASSAGE TO FREEDOM' along with text in what appears to be Vietnamese. The setting suggests a formal lecture, book talk, or commemorative event related to Vietnamese refugee history.

Edward Marolda, U.S. Naval Institute, delivers a speech during “The Naval War in Vietnam: Vietnamese and American Perspectives” conference at the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) Feb. 6. This two-day conference examined the naval side of the war from both American and Vietnamese perspectives, looking, in particular, at its causes, course and consequences. The John B. Hattendorf Center for Maritime Historical Research hosted the conference to demonstrate the value of this historical study in advancing the mission of NWC.
