ATLANTIC OCEAN (Jan. 21, 2020) Sailors assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) air department perform jet blast deflector (JBD) maintenance and cleaning prior to fight operations. A JBD is a series of water cooled panels located behind the catapult system that when raised deflect and cool exhaust allowing an aircraft to go to full power during launch.
