    Engineers Abatis Training

U.S. Marines with Marine Rotational Force-Europe 20.1, Marine Forces Europe and Africa, discuss the purpose of an abatis before creating one using explosives in Setermoen, Norway, Jan. 14, 2020. An abatis in this case uses whole trees taken down by explosives in an overlapping pattern at 45 degrees facing the enemy, which is used as an improvised anti-tank obstacle. MRF-E focuses on regional engagements throughout Europe by conducting various exercises, arctic cold-weather and mountain-warfare training, and military-to-military engagements, which enhance overall interoperability of the U.S. Marine Corps with allies and partners.
