U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Taylor Moody, 29, of Benecia, California, checks the part number on a spare part Dec. 30, 2019, aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB-10) about 800 miles north of McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Moody is a storekeeper aboard the Polar Star and is responsible for storing, cataloging and issuing more than 2,500 parts totaling approximately $2.9 million. The crew of the Polar Star is participating in Operation Deep Freeze – the U.S. military’s contribution to the U.S. Antarctic Program, which is managed by the National Science Foundation.
