Lt. Col. Bradley Bandera, a general surgeon assigned to the 175th Surgical Detachment, conducts a surgical hand scrub prior to entering the operating room in the field hospital at Sierra Army Depot, California, during a United States Forces Command Medical Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise, Oct. 29, 2019. The basic principle of the scrub is to wash the hands thoroughly and then to wash from a clean area (the hand) to a less clean area (the arm).
