The ruck is held every year to honor the 2,977 people killed during the attacks of 9/11. The event started on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey and ended at ground zero while participants carry an American Flag and a prisoner of war/missing in action flag to commemorate the day.
