Dr. Kyle McCormick, a forensic anthropologist with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), explains how recovery operations are conducted to the family of Edward Weissenback, a recently recovered Air America crewman, at the DPAA laboratory on Joint Base Pearl-Harbor Hickam, Hawaii, Sept. 16, 2019. Weissenback and his crew were on a routine resupply mission when their aircraft went down over Laos Dec. 27, 1971. After 48 years, a DPAA team recovered the remains and brought them back where DNA testing was completed, and his wife and sister were notified of her husband’s identification. The mission of DPAA is to provide the fullest possible accounting for missing personnel, their families and the nation. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Jacqueline A. Clifford)
