Pride in country and Corps is displayed on a motorcycle ready to ride in a memorial ride starting on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., to Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, Calif., May 3. The memorial ride was arranged one year after Master Gunnery Sgt. Brent L. Sherrell, who was a corrections specialist with the Naval Consolidated Brig aboard MCAS Miramar, was killed in a motorcycle accident on his way to work. The ride served not only as a way to immortalize Sherrell, but to promote good safety habits. Riders traveled a 70-mile route to Sherrell’s internment site, where his life was honored in a memorial ceremony led by Chief Warrant Officer 4 John I. Hawthorne III, a station training officer with MCAS Miramar and a Cleveland native. Sgt. Maj. Kenneth Warren, with Security Battalion, MCB Camp Pendleton, closed the ceremony with a rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
