U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. Samuel Ladd, a native of Tacoma, Washington, and a lead diver of the 74th Engineer Dive Detachment, 92nd Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, prepares his dive to evaluate Staff Sgt. Brett Hyde's qualification on July 21, 2019 at Ft. Hood, Texas. Ladd acted as a standby diver for the scenario. “He [Hyde] has his gear and will already be in the water,” said D'Angelo. “That way we can react as fast as possible to anything.” During Exercise Hood Strike, the 74th will be on standby for quick reaction to any mishaps or emergencies that may arise.
