Chief Warrant Officer 2 James Debottis, from Bergen, New York, shows Sgt. 1st Class Rockford Ray Thompson, from Orlando, Florida, both assigned to the 173rd Airborne, look through the memorabilia collected by Debottis’ great grandmother during the time his great grandfather served in World War II including his airborne jump log, newspaper articles, and letters sent home during his time away, during a D-Day 75th anniversary commemoration in Sainte-Mere-Eglise, France, June 2. More than 1300 U.S. Service Members partnered with 950 troops from across Europe and Canada, have converged in northwestern France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the WWII Allied Invasion of Normandy, commonly known as D-Day. Upwards of 80 ceremonies in 40 French communities in the region will take place between June 1-9, 2019, the apex being held June 6that the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer.
