Sgt. 1st Class Rockford Ray Thompson, from Orlando, Florida, assigned to the 173rd Airborne, gives an interview to Soldiers assigned to the 7th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment about his familial connection to D-Day and what it means to him personally to serve as well as being a part of the 75th Anniversary, in Sainte-Mere-Eglise, France, June 2. More than 1300 U.S. Service Members partnered with 950 troops from across Europe and Canada, have converged in northwestern France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the WWII Allied Invasion of Normandy, commonly known as D-Day. Upwards of 80 ceremonies in 40 French communities in the region will take place between June 1-9, 2019, the apex being held June 6that the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer.
