Chief Warrant Officer 2 James Debottis, from Bergen, New York, assigned to the 173rd Airborne shows the memorabilia book that was made by his great grandmother while his great grandfather served during WWII as well as the jump wings and the unit crest his grandfather wore during his service between 1942-1945, during a commemoration event in Saint-Mere-Eglise, France, June 2. More than 1300 U.S. Service Members partnered with 950 troops from across Europe and Canada, have converged in northwestern France to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the WWII Allied Invasion of Normandy, commonly known as D-Day. Upwards of 80 ceremonies in 40 French communities in the region will take place between June 1-9, 2019, the apex being held June 6that the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer.
