Staff Sgt. Carlos Vallejo, Western Aviation Training Site, attaches a chemical light to the water source of Staff Sgt. Elvin Adams, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, during the Land Navigation portion of the Arizona National Guard Best Warrior Competition 2019 at Camp Navajo in Bellemont, Ariz. on April 17.

Chemical lights serve as a safety measure during the night Land Navigation portion of the Best Warrior Competition in which soldiers must identify and locate a series of six points found throughout the course at Camp Navajo without the aid of any electronic devices.
