Petty Officer Charlie Gordon of Norfolk, Va., right, and Seaman Mike Nunnery, a boatswain's mate hailing from Linden, N.C., stay alert for vessels approaching the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower as it returned to its home port of Norfolk, Va., Aug. 3. Gordon and Nunnery are crewmembers of the Coast Guard Cutter Cochito, which together with its small boat that they are manning, are enforcing the 500-yard security zone that surrounds military vessels. The Cochito is an 87-foot patrol boat, also based in Norfolk, whose missions include port and waterways safety and security, enforcement of federal fisheries regulations, and search and rescue.
