170719-N-GI958-0001 PROVIDENCE, R.I. (July 19, 2017) Amy Farak, left, a natural resources specialist at U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF), and Jennifer Paulk, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) lead at Naval Air Systems Command, discuss the Navy’s proposed training and testing activities with a visitor during a meeting held within a 60-day public comment period for the Atlantic Fleet Training and Testing (AFTT) draft environmental impact statement (EIS). In accordance with NEPA, USFF is currently in the process of preparing an EIS to reassess the potential environmental impacts associated with conducting safe, yet realistic training for Sailors and testing systems within the AFTT study area, which consists of approximately 2.6 million square nautical miles of open waters and designated airspace over the Atlantic Ocean along the eastern coast of North America, portions of the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and in specific inland waters.
