170725-N-GI958-0001 MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (July 25 2017) Lt. Cmdr. Gaylon Cannon, assigned to Naval Surface Force Atlantic, and Ben Colbert, the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) lead at Naval Sea Systems Command, discuss Navy training and testing with a visitor during a meeting held within a 60-day public comment period for the Atlantic Fleet Training and Testing (AFTT) draft environmental impact statement (EIS). In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, USFF is currently in the process of preparing an EIS to reassess the potential environmental impacts associated with conducting safe, yet realistic training for Sailors and testing systems within the AFTT study area, which consists of approximately 2.6 million square nautical miles of open waters and designated airspace over the Atlantic Ocean along the eastern coast of North America, portions of the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and in specific inland waters.
