Nina: “We grew up together in Marion, and he called me up one day and said, ‘Let’s get married.’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ And that’s where the snafu started because the Vietnam War came to a height, and it blew everything wide open. His leave was cancelled, and we had to cancel the wedding. The flowers were canceled, the church was canceled, everything was canceled. Then he showed up one morning and surprised me. I was sound asleep.”
Terry: “That was a Wednesday, and we got married Thursday.”
Nina: “We were married Nov. 25, 1971. It was Thanksgiving. We didn't have a place to get married, so we got married in front of his mother's fireplace. His cousin married us. It was real quick, fast, and savvy. We had mum arrangements on each side, and they even got a bakery to open up and make us a cake. And then the next day he had to report back to Whiteman Air Force Base.”
