Marine Gunnery Sgt. Deborah Hamner and Gunnery Sgt. Jesse Gerhardt present the Esprit de Corps award to Sable Thompson of George Walton Academy from Monroe, Ga., at the Marine Corps Invitational U.S. Scholastic Band Association 2011 Southern States Championships at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn., Nov. 5, 2011. The event was a chance for high school bands to compete against other schools throughout the southern states. Marines supported the event by presenting a special award that honored the team who best exuded the Marine Corps’ values.The winning team performed a set titled “The Carmen Project,” which included the songs, The Carmen Overture, Habenerolero, Jazzaredor and La Muerte de Carmen.
