A concrete blast wall or T-wall, typical of military forward operating bases in the Middle East, has been painted with the Mississippi state flag (pre-2020 design) and the word 'MISSISSIPPI' above it. Below the painted flag, numerous military personnel have signed their names, ranks, units, and hometowns as a form of informal memorial or unit marker. This type of wall art and signing was common practice among deployed U.S. military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.
