Cpl. Gary E. Havner cooks the steak, peppers and onions portion of his meal during the 2011 Chef of the Year competition at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. Havner prepared an Asian style meal and because of that walked away with first place in the contest. Havner’s wife taught him how to make sushi and after spending time in Japan he learned how to do it well.
