The bridge was constructed following World War I to honor the crossing of the 37th Division over the Scheldt (Escaut) River Nov 1-2, 1918. Army National Guard Soldiers were in France and Belgium Aug. 3-9, taking part in the U.S. Army World War I Centennial Commemoration.
