Spanish army Brigada José Nogales, left foreground, and Spanish army Col. Luis Herruzo, center background, both serving with the military attaché for the Spanish Embassy in Kabul, salute their national flag as a Spanish song is played in honor of fallen service members during the Spanish National Day ceremony at the International Security Assistance Force Headquarters, Oct. 13. Nearly 50 Spanish service members along with a number of their international counterparts serving with ISAF throughout Kabul attended the ceremony to remember the day Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. While they may not have been able to celebrate on Oct. 12, as their compatriots in Spain did, the troops still felt it important to honor the holiday and pay homage to their fallen comrades. Following the ceremony, the ISAF troops enjoyed a feast of Spanish foods, including paella, gazpacho and dry-cured Spanish ham.
