U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Levite Vaillancourt, of Rochester, N.Y., takes a slice of cake during the Navy birthday ceremony at the International Security Assistance Force Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan, Oct. 13. In addition to specialized units like the Navy seals and seabees, nearly 2,300 U.S. sailors are serving in Afghanistan in individual slots alongside their sister service members and international counterparts. Their contributions are seen and felt throughout Afghanistan as they fill critical roles in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Vaillancourt, a Sailor with the U.S.S. New Orleans out of San Diego, deployed to Afghanistan to serve as the non-commissioned officer in charge for the intelligence analysts at ISAF headquarters.
