Hempstead, N.Y., native Lance Cpl. Frantz Jean, a radio operator with 1st Battalion, 12 Marine Regiment, said he enjoys playing spades in his spare time. He said this deployment has made him a better man and taught him not to dwell on the small things in life because there are people in the world who have it much harder. The hardest part of the deployment was being away from family, Jean said.
