An aerial photograph shows multiple naval vessels underway in open blue ocean waters. Three ships are visible in formation, with prominent white and turquoise wake trails cutting diagonally across the frame. The clear sky and calm sea conditions suggest favorable weather during what appears to be a naval exercise or transit operation.

ATLANTIC OCEAN (Aug. 30, 2018) The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72); the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mason (DDG 87) from Destroyer Squadron 2; the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98) and USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) from Destroyer Squadron 28; and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) transit the Atlantic Ocean. The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group are participating in dual-carrier sustainment and qualification operations in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to demonstrating the Navy's inherent flexibility and scalability, this evolution provides the opportunity to conduct complex, multi-unit training to enhance maritime interoperability and combat readiness, and prepare the Navy to protect our homeland and preserve and promote peace anywhere around the world.
