M777 Howitzer airlifted for first time by Marine Corps Osprey in the field in Australia

Marines with Mike Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, stand clear of the dust as an MV-22 Osprey with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 268 (VMM-268) lands to pick up an M777 Howitzer during Marine Rotational Force – Darwin’s Exercise Koolendong at Mount Bundey Training Area, Australia, Aug. 25, 2018. This is the first time an Osprey has lifted and moved a Howitzer in an austere environment in Australia and it is the first time an entire artillery battery deployed in support of MRF-D.
