A Bradley Fighting Vehicle heads to its position in El Jarba, a mock city in the Fort Bliss training area, Aug. 6, 2018 during Iron Focus. The 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team Soldiers prepared a defense ahead of the arrival of an oppositional force, or OPFOR, played by 82nd Airborne Division troopers. Nearly 500 troopers assigned to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, would jump into Fort bliss, Texas August 5, 2018, as part of iron Focus and would eventually land in McGregor Training Complex near White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, and work to seize objectives held by units of 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.
Iron Focus is a one of the largest exercises conducted on Fort Bliss and surrounding areas as part of the 1st Armored Division Commander's Combat Training Center Certification program. Every echelon of the Brigade is challenged through their ability to conduct offensive, defensive and stability operations against a hybrid threat, as well as being validated on how well they plan, prepare for and execute airspace management, joint fires integration and fires de-confliction. Iron Focus provides the commanding general a realistic platform to assess the readiness of Brigades, ensuring they are fully trained and prepared to fight across multiple domains and through contested areas for future contingency operations.
