A 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, "Always Ready" Stryker driver navigates through the mock city of El Jarba near White Sands Missle Range, New Mexico Aug. 6, 2018 ahead of an expected assault by oppositional forces, or OPFOR, played by 82nd Airborne Division Soldiers. The airborne troops provided tough, realistic training for 1st Armored Division Soldiers, while also honing their own combat skills.

Nearly 500 Soldiers assigned to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, jumped into Fort bliss, Texas August 5, 2018, as part of iron Focus 18.2. The troopers were given notice less than 48 hours prior to departing Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the home of Airborne and Special Operations, as part of an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise, or EDRE. They would eventually land in McGregor Training Complex near White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, and work to seize objectives held by units of 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.

Iron Focus is a one of the largest exercises conducted on Fort Bliss and surrounding areas as part of the 1st Armored Division Commander's Combat Training Center Certification program. Every echelon of the Brigade is challenged through their ability to conduct offensive, defensive and stability operations against a hybrid threat, as well as being validated on how well they plan, prepare for and execute airspace management, joint fires integration and fires de-confliction. Iron Focus provides the commanding general a realistic platform to assess the readiness of Brigades, ensuring they are fully trained and prepared to fight across multiple domains and through contested areas for future contingency operations. Training and exercises sustain readiness, while reassuring our allies and deterring potential adversaries. (Photo by Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Sanders, 1st Armored Division Public Affairs)
