Jaylen Jones, 84th Engineer Batallion Soldier and patient actor, sports a mock impalement while providing simulated medical information to Petty Officer 2nd Class James Farrington III, a corpsman at the Naval Health Clinic Hawaii, who is testing out a new electronic medical record system designed to virtually document medical encounters in the field environment. The mock scenario is part of the U.S. Navy’s Rim of the Pacific exercise, as part of the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief portion of the training event. Regional Health Command-Pacific Soldiers and civilians participated in the statewide medical response training to enhance operability, test communication and exercise crisis response capabilities amongst interagency partners. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans.
