Puerto Rico, April 21, 2018 - Archaeologists and Environmental Specialists examine an exposed pre-Columbian deposit during their visit to the North Coast of Puerto Rico. FEMA Environmental Planning and Historic Preservation Division (EHP), The U.S. Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) work hand in hand in order to establish protocols to avoid and minimize damaging impact to the historical and archaeological findings during debris removal operations. Coastal erosion caused by Hurricane María have left multiple archaeological deposits exposed throughout the island. FEMA/Eduardo Martínez
