Puerto Rico, Apr 21, 2018 - A view of coastal debris in the North Coast of Puerto Rico, after Hurricane María. FEMA Environmental Planning and Historic Preservation Division (EHP), The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Puerto Rico State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) work hand in hand in order to establish protocols to avoid and minimize damaging impact to the historical and archaeological findings during debris removal operations. The first phase will be the collection and disposal of coastal debris that poses a hazard to public health and safety. Coastal erosion caused by Hurricane María have left multiple archaeological deposits exposed throughout the island. FEMA/Eduardo Martínez
