FIREBASE SAENZ, Helmand province, Afghanistan - Lance Cpl. Jonathan Arxer, a Union City, N.J., native and an artillery mechanic with Alpha Battery plays a friendly dice game with his fellow Marines. The Alpha Battery Marines, who belong to 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, are on call 24/7. They must remain close to the gun line during the day, often playing dice or board games to pass the time when they are not actively involved in a fire mission or conducting preventative maintenance on the howitzers.
