180401-N-ZK016-0014 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (April 1, 2018) Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (foreground) and components of the Iwo Jima amphibious readiness group are deployed in support of Alligator Dagger – a combat rehearsal off the coast of Djibouti, Africa. Iwo Jima, homeported in Mayport, Florida, is on a regularly scheduled deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
