GREAT LAKES, Ill. (March 16, 2018) Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Steven Giordano (left) talks to Recruit Division Commanders (RDC) and Battle Stations facilitators on the pier next to USS Trayer (BST 21) at the Navy’s only boot camp, Recruit Training Command (RTC), March 16. MCPON visited RTC to see changes in curriculum to a more intensive hands-on training and to thank the RDCs and facilitators providing the new training to recruits. Trayer is a 210-foot-long Arleigh Burke-class destroyer replica, the Navy’s largest simulator, where recruits go through Battle Stations, a grueling 12-hour culmination of basic training and the last evolution recruits accomplish before they graduate from boot camp. RTC is approximately eight weeks and all enlistees into the U.S. Navy begin their careers at the command. Training includes physical fitness, seamanship, firearms, firefighting and shipboard damage control along with lessons in Navy heritage and core values, teamwork and discipline.
