Retired Cpl. Steven Cornford, a Silver Star recipient, takes a moment to compose himself as he recalls watching his platoon leader pass away. Cornford, a Mountain Home, Idaho, native, came to Joint Base Balad April 28 during a weeklong visit to Iraq as a part of Operation Proper Exit, a program to help wounded warriors get closure.
