170929-N-KW679-0205 PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten (September 29, 2017) Soldiers and Marines assigned to Joint Task Force Leeward Islands (JTF-LI) load equipment onto the expeditionary fast transport vessel USNS Spearhead (T-EPF 1). JTF-LI deployed to Sint Maarten to assist in humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Irma hit the island. SPS 17 is a U.S. Navy deployment executed by U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet, focused on subject matter expert exchanges with partner nation militaries and security forces in Central and South America.
