Two naval personnel wearing red hard hats and red safety vests are conducting a replenishment-at-sea (RAS) operation, with one sailor firing a line-throwing gun toward an adjacent warship. The ship visible alongside bears the hull number 52, consistent with a US Navy Ticonderoga-class cruiser or similar vessel. The operation is taking place on overcast open ocean conditions.

170810-N-XC372-014 PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 10, 2017) Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class Roberts Stewart fires a shot-line from the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) during an underway replenishment with the guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG 52). Theodore Roosevelt is underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests a carrier strike group’s mission-readiness and ability to perform as an integrated unit through simulated real-world scenarios.
