U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Andrew Morris, fire fighter mentor, video tapes the progress of Afghan fire fighters during a live-fire exercise Tuesday. The exercise required Afghan fire recruits to enter a burning structure and fight the fire while rescuing the occupant and watching out for the health of their fellow fire fighters. Until recently, Afghan fire fighters used a ‘surround and drown’ approach to fighting fires because they lacked the necessary equipment to enter the burning structure and fight the fire at the source. Today’s exercise is the eighth one using this trailer where recruits were required to enter the burning structure.
