Mezira Shirzad coordinates efforts with the fire team coming behind him as his partner enters a burning trailer during a live-fire exercise Tuesday. Shirzad and his teammate haul a 2.5 inch hose versus the typical 1.75 inch used in most countries when entering a burning building. While the larger hose is useful in the ‘surround and drown’ fire fighting techniques Afghans typically use, it’s bulk and extra weight made it difficult to get into the building and fight the fire at the source.
