Sgt. Peter Carelli, Section Leader of 3rd Section, Bravo Company, 4th Amphibious Assault Battalion, gives the hand signal to “halt” the Amphibious Assault Vehicles (AAVs) in his section. Carelli commands 4 AAVs and normally uses radio communication; however, when the radios do not function properly he resorts to hand signals. Carelli’s section is used in support of infantry operations to transport Marines and provide cover fire with the AAV’s M2 .50cal machine gun or its Mk19 Automatic 40mm grenade launcher.
