JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 5, 2017) – Lt. Cmdr. Ivy Fitzpatrick, an obstetrics and gynecology physician at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, discusses cervical cancer screenings with a patient. Cervical cancer is the easiest gynecologic cancer to prevent, with regular screening tests and follow-up. The Pap test looks for pre-cancers (cell changes on the cervix that might become cervical cancer if not treated appropriately). The HPV test looks for a virus than can cause these cell changes.
