BAY OF BENGAL (July 16, 2017) U.S. Navy Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Jacob Johnson, from Jackson, Mich., explains the duties of the boatswain's mate of the watch to a distinguished visitor, Commandant Sharma Deepak, Indian navy, aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68), July 16, 2017, in the Bay of Bengal, as part of Exercise Malabar. Malabar 2017 is the latest in a continuing series of exercises between the Indian navy, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and U.S. Navy that has grown in scope and complexity over the years to address the variety of shared threats to maritime security in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
