Sgt. Gavin Jenkins, the maintenance management chief, and Cpl. Margarito Perez, a supply clerk, both with 1st Marine Division (Forward), raise morning colors in front of the 1st MarDiv(Fwd) headquarters, Dec. 4. Since early history, flags and battle colors have been used for identification and signaling by military units. Today, Marines fly morning and evening colors ceremonies out of respect, dedication and tradition. Jenkins, 23, is a native of Orange County, Calif., and Perez, 20, is from Los Angeles.
